Welcome to John Omaha’s web site presenting the Affect Centered Therapy Dr. Omaha created. This site is the authoritative source for information about Affect Centered Therapy.

Affect Centered Therapy (ACT) addresses the deepest level of human motivation, the emotions. Most psychopathology results from difficulty managing emotion. Often current problems arise from unresolved emotions carried over from childhood adversity and trauma. ACT begins by teaching clients skills to regulate emotions, and then ACT uncovers and resolves the adverse or traumatic experiences from childhood.

This site provides descriptions of ACT and the emotion regulation protocol called Affect Management Skills Training (AMST). On this site you’ll learn about Dr. Omaha’s book and the DVD and CD products introducing ACT. You can easily and safely purchase these products here. The site describes Dr. Omaha’s workshops, and you can register for them here as well.

Finally, the site offers papers Dr. Omaha has written describing applications of ACT to treatment of OCD, eating disorders, addictions and alcoholism, Crohn’s Disease, sexual compulsivity disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders. You’ll also find a paper on ACT’s application to working with couples.
